The City of Jacksonville Beach announces the lineup for its 7th Summer Jazz Series. The three-concert series is scheduled for Sunday evenings from 5 - 9pm at the Sea Walk Pavilion on June 8, July 13 and August 17. Admission is free and open to the public. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy refreshments available for purchase from local vendors.
This year's schedule is:
June 8: Headliner - The Sax Pack, starring Jeff Kashiwa, Kim Waters and Steve Cole. Opener will be Matt Marshak and starter is C1 Jazz.
July 13: Headliner - Nelson Rangell. Opener will be Urban Jazz Coalition.
August 17: Headliners - Marion Meadows and Gerald Veasley. Opener will be The Robert Harris Group. |

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk Kick-off The Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk Kick-off will take place on Friday, July 25, 2008 from 6 - 8:00 p.m. The event will be held at Maverick’s Rock N’ Honky Tonk at The Jacksonville Landing, 2 Independent Drive, Jacksonville.
Tickets for the event are being sold for a minimum donation of $10 and can be purchased online or by calling 904.252.4534. Tickets include the first beer or wine, yummy food, entertainment and a door prize ticket. Bring friends, family, colleagues, and others to this fun night that benefits the Alzheimer's Association, Central & North Florida Chapter. Door prizes will be drawn at 7:30pm. Stay after for country line dance lessons that evening at 8pm. This event is for supporters 21 and older, please.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) Join Team In Training And Raise Funds For Lifesaving Cancer Research
If completing a marathon, triathlon or 100-mile cycling race is on your to-do list but you don’t know how to reach the finish line, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) program can help get you there. There is no better time to join. TNT is celebrating its 20th Anniversary during 2008, recognizing 20 years of saving lives.
TNT, the world’s largest endurance3 sports training program, provides four to five months of certified coaching, a supportive group of teammates and nutrional clinics to help you complete a marathon, half marathon or century ride. TNT has prepared more than 39,000 participants a year, from novices to accomplished endurance racers, sinces its inception in 1988. . In that time more than 360,000 TNT participants have raised more than $850 million to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) blood cancer research and patient services initiatives.
LLS’s Northern Florida chapter is currently recruiting TNT participants for winter events, including the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, scheduled for January 10-11, 2009, P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon on January 18, 2009, and the Jacksonville Bank Marathon set for December 21, 2008. 4th Annual "Walking for Huntington Disease" Huntington’s Disease (HD) is an inherited brain disorder that leads to severe incapacitation and eventual death 10-40 years after the onset of the disease. Although it usually affects adults between the ages of 30 and 45, symptoms can appear in young children (Juvenile HD) and adults in their golden years. All money raised at this event will go to find a cure for Huntington’s disease and to provide services for HD patients and their families in our area. |

2008 Bubba Fishing Tournament DESC’s 2008 Bubba Fishing Tournament helps to feed, clothe, house, and much more for people right in our area who have come across some unfortunate circumstances. This event, which is in its 13th year, will take place Saturday, October 18th. About 150 volunteers run the tournament. There are 100 fishing spots that anglers can purchase @ $275.00/spot. The prize for catching Big Bubba, a catfish weighing 30+ pounds, is $5,000.00. There are also prizes given up to the 10th place winner! After prizes are given out, a BBQ dinner, cooked by our very own local firemen, will be available for $25.00 per dinner. The event lasts from 10am-4pm. ALL donations and/or monies collected for this event goes to DESC, an emergency services ministry in its 27th year. This in turn goes right back to our community.
